Antalya
Antalya stretches along the popular bay bearing its name. It is built at thirty nine meters altitude on a stony coastline. One is struck by the beautiful Taurus mountains rising to more then 3000 meters above the coastline, interspersed with wonderful valleys of varying sizes. Land and sea meet the beaches that stretch for miles or the steep cliffs. The famous Taurus mountains against the blue sky, the precipices and especially the caves near the sea add another dimension to the beauty of the region.
The streams emerging from the west side of the Taurus. This diaphanous running water, falling into the sea, is another attractive sight.
Antalya’s plant life is extremely varied. You can find every kind of tropical plant here. Visitors are struck by the size of cactus. And if you reach the foothills of Taurus mountains, you can see they are covered in the Mediterranean maquis, and the forests are full of pine trees and oaks. The cotton and sesame plantations and also banana groves of the plains have a raving beauty of their own.
The four seasons in Antalya appear only on the calendar, because there is no real winter there, so much so that when snow fell in 1985 for the first time in sixty years, it was front page news.
Antalya’s summers are hot and rainless and the other months are warm and rainy, with an annual temperature of 18.7 °C.
There is no rain for more than 300 days a year. And it is very rare for the temperature there to drop below zero. In the last forty years the highest temperature was 44.6 °C. The average humidty rate is 64%, while the seat temperatures are 17.5 °C in January, 18.1 °C in April, 27.8 °C in August and 24.6 °C in September.
